Our mission Malachi Center was founded in 1985 to extend the outreach of the 140-year-old St. Malachi Parish through formal programs and services. Today, Malachi Center, a non-profit organization, serves as a safe harbor where the homeless, low income families and their children can build on their strengths and resiliency, access community resources, and take positive steps forward in their lives. The mission of Malachi Center is to empower the individual, nurture the family and build the community.

About us Children’s Programs Malachi Center’s After School Program (ASP) and accompanying six week Summer Camp strive to support the needs of children and families through academic and enrichment activities that enhance learning , build upon individual strengths and interests and encourage lifelong success. Children served by Malachi Center struggle with challenges closely linked to poverty and come from low income households. The programs provide a safe, encouraging environment during the after school or summer hours for children in grades K-8. During the 2013-2014 school year children received 13,656 hours of high quality after school programming. Children participating in Malachi Center’s children’s programs receive the following services and support: • tutoring • one-on-one reading time and literacy support with trained volunteers each week • opportunities to participate in enrichment activities including cooking, soccer, computers, and drama • structured outdoor activities • summer swimming lessons • opportunities to participate in community service projects • exposure to college and career opportunities • leadership and life skills development • family nights that engage parents in their children’s education • nutritious meals and access to clothing, school supplies, and other needs that support a child’s ability to focus on school Homeless Shower Program Malachi Center’s’ programming for the homeless centers around the Homeless Shower program which provides over 4,500 services annually. A shower is one of the most basic needs – essential for maintaining good health and hygiene, as well as personal dignity. Without access to showers and clothes washing facilities the homeless are at increased risk of illness and infection. A shower and clean clothes are also essential for gaining access to many needed resources –including employment. Shower facilities, towels and toiletries are provided each weekday morning. The Shower Program not only provides the homeless with the personal dignity and health benefits that come with a hot shower and clean clothing, but also offers hope and access to resources. As participants learn that Malachi Center is a safe place where they will be treated with respect and kindness, trust is able to develop. In turn, Center staff is then often able to link participants with needed medical, mental health, substance abuse, housing and other services. A coordinated bi monthly “Soup and God” program also provides a hot meal and the opportunity for homeless men to receive support as they examine the challenges in their lives linked to homelessness. Other Services Other Malachi Center services and programs include a Clothing Program, holiday assistance, help with securing birth certificates and Identification cards for school, employment, and housing, a computer lab and access to sewing supplies and lessons. Malachi Center also hosts a health clinic for homeless men and women each Friday morning.
